Oceania Cruises expands Northern Europe program for 2027

Smaller ports, immersive experiences and destination-focused travel continue to shape demand in the Nordic region

Northern Europe continues to be one of the most attractive cruise regions in the world. Reflecting this demand, Oceania Cruises has unveiled its 2027 Northern Europe program, featuring itineraries across Scandinavia, the Baltic region, Iceland, Greenland and the British Isles. The program will be operated by Oceania Insignia, Oceania Marina and Oceania Vista, offering travellers a wide range of opportunities to explore some of the region’s most iconic landscapes and cultural destinations.

Growing interest in smaller ports

A notable feature of the new program is its focus on smaller ports that are often inaccessible to larger cruise vessels. Among the destinations included are Rosendal in Norway, Stornoway in Scotland, Seyðisfjörður in Iceland and Karlskrona in Sweden. This reflects a wider trend across the travel industry. Many travellers are increasingly looking beyond major tourism hotspots in search of more authentic experiences, local culture and less crowded destinations.

Experiences matter more than ever

Alongside the itineraries themselves, Oceania Cruises places strong emphasis on shore experiences designed to connect travelers with local communities, traditions and landscapes. Examples include cider tastings in Norway’s Hardanger region, culinary experiences on the Swedish island of Gotland and off-road excursions into the remote landscapes of eastern Iceland. The growing popularity of these experiences mirrors broader changes in traveler expectations. Increasingly, visitors are seeking meaningful connections with the destinations they visit rather than simply ticking locations off a list.

Northern Europe remains a strong growth market

While the announcement comes from the cruise sector, the underlying trends are relevant across the wider tourism industry. Travelers increasingly value smaller-scale experiences, meaningful local connections and opportunities to discover places beyond the traditional tourism routes. For destinations and tourism businesses across Northern Europe, these trends highlight the importance of developing products that combine authenticity, local expertise and memorable experiences, whether on land or at sea.
