Dutch travel group Northbound Travel has announced the acquisition of BBI Travel, further strengthening its position in the market for travel to Scandinavia, Iceland, Finnish Lapland and other northern destinations. BBI Travel will continue to operate as an independent brand within the Northbound Travel portfolio.
Based at Groningen Airport Eelde, the company has more than 60 years of experience and is considered one of the Netherlands’ most established specialists for travel to Ireland, Scandinavia, Iceland and Canada.
The acquisition not only expands Northbound Travel’s portfolio but also strengthens its regional position in the north of the Netherlands and adds strategic departure opportunities through Groningen Airport Eelde.
The group already includes Voigt Travel, Buro Scanbrit and Scandinavian Wintersports. In addition, the company owns Lapland Boutique Resorts in Finnish Lapland. The move also reflects a wider trend within the Nordic tourism sector, where specialist tour operators increasingly combine expertise, infrastructure and purchasing power while maintaining a strong focus on authentic and high-quality Nordic travel experiences.
Travel to Lapland and Northern Scandinavia continues to see strong demand across European markets. Nature-based holidays, winter experiences and tailor-made itineraries remain among the key drivers behind the growth of Nordic tourism.
For the travel industry, the acquisition may therefore also signal that the market for specialized Nordic travel continues to mature and gain strategic importance.
