MSC Cruises has officially launched its 2026 Northern Europe summer season, once again placing strong focus on Nordic itineraries. In mid-May, MSC Euribia departed from Kiel on the first cruise of the season towards the Norwegian fjords. The itineraries include destinations such as Geiranger, Flåm and Hellesylt, combining UNESCO-listed fjord landscapes with calls at selected Nordic ports.
German ports continue to play a central role in MSC Cruises’ Northern Europe strategy. In summer 2026, three MSC ships will operate regular departures from Germany, including MSC Euribia from Kiel, MSC Magnifica from Warnemünde and MSC Preziosa from Hamburg. The programs cover different segments of Northern European cruising, ranging from classic fjord itineraries to longer voyages to Iceland, the Baltic region and Northern Norway.
The new programs underline the continued popularity of Northern Europe within the European cruise market. Cruises focusing on nature, cooler summer climates and combined Nordic itineraries remain in high demand. Alongside Norway, MSC Cruises is also placing increasing emphasis on Iceland and Baltic Sea routes, with ports including Reykjavik, Riga, Stockholm and Klaipėda. Cruise operators also continue investing in upgraded ships and premium concepts. MSC Magnifica, for example, recently underwent extensive refurbishment and now includes an MSC Yacht Club area.
For many travelers, Nordic cruises are becoming an alternative to traditional Mediterranean holidays. Cooler temperatures, dramatic landscapes and growing interest in nature-based travel experiences are among the main drivers behind this trend.
With several departure ports in Germany and flexible route combinations, Northern Europe is expected to remain an important segment of the European cruise market in 2026.
The continued expansion of Nordic and fjord cruise itineraries highlights the strategic importance of Northern Europe for international cruise operators, particularly within the growing market for nature-focused summer travel.
