Around 1.3 million long-distance journeys were made by rail in Finland in June this year. This is 7% more than in June 2022 and about 8% more than in June 2019.
In the months January to June 2023, a total of around 7.2 million long-distance journeys were made by rail. Piia Tyynilä, Senior Vice President of VR Long Distance Trains says: "The popularity of rail travel remained at a good level in June. We added many cheap tickets for sale during the summer and there are still about 500,000 long-distance journeys available for less than 10 euros. There are many great summer destinations to see in Finland, and we also offer more than 100 additional long-distance and local trains to the most popular events of the summer."
On long-distance services, punctuality was 84.5% in June. Primary causes of delays were track-related (63%), due to track work, speed limits and disruptions in the rail system. In local traffic, punctuality was 97% in June.
