Stena Line has invested millions in the refurbishment of Stena Germanica and Stena Scandinavica on the Gothenburg–Kiel route. Restaurant and bar areas, as well as outdoor decks, have been modernised, following earlier cabin upgrades completed last year. The timing, just ahead of the high season, sends a message beyond aesthetics.
The overnight ferry connection between Kiel and Gothenburg remains one of the most important sea links between Central Europe and Scandinavia. The 14-hour crossing connects Sweden directly to the German market and supports both holiday travel and onward European itineraries. Large-scale investments indicate confidence in continued demand. Booking figures for the upcoming season suggest strong performance.
With upgraded public spaces, the crossing can be positioned not merely as transportation, but as part of the Nordic travel experience.
At a time when air capacity fluctuates and sustainability discussions intensify, sea connections provide stability and alternative access to Nordic destinations. The refurbishment is therefore more than a technical upgrade. It reflects long-term confidence in the Central Europe–Scandinavia corridor.
