Icelandair signs memorandum for airbus aircraft purchase

Icelandair and Airbus have signed a letter of intent for the purchase of 13 Airbus A321XLRs and the right to purchase a further 12 aircraft.
Delivery of the aircraft will take place in 2029.

However, Icelandair would like to start operations with Airbus aircraft as early as 2025. The Icelandic airline is currently in an advanced stage of negotiations for four leased Airbus A321LRs. Further additions are expected in subsequent years, as the acquisition will serve to replace all Boeing 757 aircraft.

Financing for the aircraft is not yet secured, but the company will explore financing options closer to delivery dates.

The Airbus aircraft have excellent range, fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions. Icelandair hopes thus to reduce operating costs, further support sustainability goals and offer an exceptional customer experience through the aircraft design and unique features.
