HX Hurtigruten Expeditions has unveiled the first details of its exclusive solar eclipse voyage set for August 2026. The route will take guests through the stunning landscapes of Greenland, Iceland, and Svalbard, aiming to witness a total solar eclipse under optimal conditions.
Onboard, guests will be joined by three distinguished experts:
They will share insights into astronomical phenomena, provide photography tips, and offer historical perspectives on past eclipses.
The expedition vessel will be positioned in Greenland’s Scoresby Sund – the largest fjord system in the world – to give guests the best chance of clear skies during the eclipse. The exact location will be decided shortly before the event, based on weather and ice conditions.
In addition to the celestial spectacle, small-group excursions will allow participants to explore pristine Arctic landscapes, spot wildlife such as musk oxen or polar bears, and experience the culture of remote communities. The journey begins in Oslo and ends in Iceland, with numerous science-led stops along the way.
