“Norway’s Coastal Kitchen” of Hurtigruten expands with exclusive gastronomic experiences

Hurtigruten is taking its award-winning “Norway’s Coastal Kitchen” concept to the next level. Starting in autumn 2025, food lovers can embark on a seven-day journey showcasing the finest of Norway’s coastal cuisine – both on board Hurtigruten’s legendary postal ships and at carefully selected partner locations on land.

This new experience focuses on regional ingredients, traditional craftsmanship, and sustainability. “Our guests are increasingly looking for authentic taste experiences,” says Øistein Nilsen, Culinary Director at Hurtigruten. “This new route combines Norwegian culinary traditions with modern gastronomy in a way that’s thoughtful, sustainable, and deeply flavorful.”

From fjord to farm: culinary highlights throughout the journey

The voyage begins with a series of exclusive culinary moments along the route from Bergen to Stamsund:

  • Freshly caught seafood from local fjords
  • A guided tasting at Feddie Ocean Distillery
  • A four-course dinner curated by Máret Rávdná Buljo, ambassador of Sámi cuisine
  • A tasting of the unique sparkling wine "Havet’s Bobler", matured for 12 months under Arctic seawatere

In Stamsund, the journey continues ashore at Myklevik Gård, one of Hurtigruten’s closest culinary partners. There, guests enjoy a seasonal farm-to-table dinner and learn about a pioneering circular food system: organic waste from Hurtigruten ships is turned into compost, which then nurtures the farm's crops.

Seaweed, whisky, and 17 courses – Norway for food enthusiasts

Next is a visit to Lofoten Seaweed, a company specializing in the harvesting and processing of local seaweed – a nutrient-rich superfood. Guests enjoy a creative lunch that highlights how seaweed is used in modern Nordic cuisine.

Another highlight is the visit to Kvitnes Gård, where Halvar Ellingsen, Norway’s “Chef of the Year,” serves a refined 17-course meal using only ingredients grown on-site or sourced from nearby producers – all in a beautifully restored farmhouse setting.

At the Lyngenfjord, guests visit the Aurora Spirit Distillery, the world’s northernmost whisky distillery. Here, they enjoy a private cask tasting and a three-course meal paired with the distillery’s finest spirits.

The journey concludes in Tromsø at the historic Mack Brewery. Guests take part in a beer tasting and enjoy a regional lunch, featuring Hurtigruten’s new signature bread, baked with spent grain from the brewery’s production process.
