Halo Igloos is expanding its presence in Finland with a new year-round resort in Marjaniemi on the island of Hailuoto. Construction of Halo Arctic Island is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026, with the opening planned for summer 2027.
The resort will feature 25 cabins, a dedicated restaurant and three outdoor saunas. Its concept follows the nature-focused approach of the company’s existing resorts in Rovaniemi, combining modern Scandinavian design with the coastal environment of northern Finland.
Hailuoto lies in the Bothnian Bay, west of Oulu. The island is known for its extensive sandy beaches, shifting dunes, pine forests and small coastal communities. In the historic fishing village of Marjaniemi, an iconic lighthouse and old wooden buildings meet the open sea.
As the largest island in the Bothnian Bay, Hailuoto offers a different landscape from the forests and fells more commonly associated with northern Finland. The entire municipality is recognised as one of Finland’s National Landscapes.
The new resort aims to attract guests throughout the year by combining the island’s natural and cultural features with premium accommodation, dining and sauna experiences. According to the company, cooperation with local partners will also play an important role in its development.
The new fixed road connection between Hailuoto and the mainland is expected to support the island’s tourism development. The approximately 8.4-kilometre causeway and bridge connection opened to traffic at the end of June 2026, replacing the previous ferry service. Hailuoto can now be reached without depending on ferry timetables.
Halo Arctic Island will be located around 50 kilometres from Oulu Airport and 63 kilometres from Oulu city centre. This combination of remote coastal surroundings and relatively easy access could make the island particularly interesting for individual tours, fly-drive itineraries and premium nature holidays.
The resort could also be integrated into wider programs combining Oulu with Finland’s Lakeland or other destinations in northern Finland. Its year-round concept creates opportunities beyond the established winter season, including coastal stays in summer and nature-based programs in autumn and winter.
