With a diverse sports event calendar for 2026, Estonia continues to strengthen its profile as an active destination for international visitors. From winter endurance events to triathlons, cycling races and outdoor festivals, the country covers a wide spectrum of sports tourism across all seasons. For tour operators, these events offer structured opportunities for thematic travel programs, group tours and event-based packages.
The season opens in February with the Tartu Marathon, one of Europe’s largest and most traditional cross-country ski marathons and part of the Worldloppet series. The route between Otepää and Elva caters to both ambitious athletes and recreational participants. In March, Otepää hosts a Biathlon World Cup event at the Tehvandi Sports Centre, reinforcing Estonia’s visibility within international winter sports.
In April, the Võhandu Marathon — considered Europe’s largest canoe marathon — challenges participants along a 100 km route through Southern Estonia.
Cycling gains prominence in June with the Tour of Estonia, part of the UCI Europe Tour, linking Tallinn and Tartu. The professional race is complemented by mass-participation formats such as the long-standing Tartu Rattaralli.
Additional events including the European Disc Golf Festival in Tallinn and the Nordic Kite Festival in Pärnu combine sport and lifestyle formats, attracting international participants.
The WRC Rally Estonia in July and gravel-focused formats such as the Grävely Fest further diversify the active travel portfolio.
In August, Tallinn hosts IRONMAN Tallinn and IRONMAN 70.3, offering a distinctive course that combines Baltic Sea swimming with urban and coastal cycling routes.
The sports calendar concludes with long-distance cycling formats and the Tallinn Marathon in autumn, catering to both performance-oriented runners and recreational participants.
Estonia’s 2026 sports calendar reflects a clear strategic focus on sports and active tourism as a growth segment. Particularly noteworthy are events outside peak summer months, which can generate demand in shoulder seasons.
As sports tourism continues to gain relevance across Europe, Estonia positions itself as a compact, well-organised and versatile destination for active travelers.
