The European Entry/Exit System (EES) is being gradually introduced at airports in Lapland. In Finland, the system was first implemented at Helsinki Airport on 12 October 2025. According to the Finnish Border Guard, the rollout at Lapland airports will begin in early 2026.
Before the system is fully operational, authorities have carried out a dedicated preparation phase. This included system testing and training border control officers in the new procedures. The objective has been to ensure that border checks remain safe, efficient and as smooth as possible during the transition.
Passengers are advised to follow the instructions displayed at airports, which are designed to support efficient border control processes. Travelers are also encouraged to familiarise themselves with the EES in advance of their journey. The European Union provides official information about the system via its dedicated EES website.
The introduction of the EES does not impact Finnish citizens or other EU nationals. The system applies to third-country travellers and will digitally record entries and exits at external EU borders.
