From the beginning of February to the end of March, a weekly flight from Zurich to Ivalo or Kuusamo will be offered every Friday. This flight connection strengthens Central Europe's position as an important market for travel to Ivalo and Ruka-Kuusamo.
Before the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, there were direct charter flights from Switzerland to Kuusamo. But after the pandemic, these services were not resumed. Edelweiss' new scheduled service restores this connection and offers a convenient way for Swiss travellers to get to Ruka-Kuusamo.
Along with Kittilä and Rovaniemi, Ivalo is one of the major tourist destinations in Finland. The area is home to the Saariselkä winter sports area, which is particularly popular with cross-country skiers, with 230 km of trails. It also offers opportunities for skiing and snowshoeing.
Swiss visitors to Lapland are particularly interested in Finnish sauna culture, winter nature experiences and the Northern Lights.
The non-stop flights from Ivalo and Kuusamo airports to Europe also create a convenient opportunity for residents of the two destinations to travel abroad. The flight connections of Edelweiss, as well as Eurowings and Lufthansa, enable travellers to reach Germany and Switzerland within a few hours.
