Copenhagen Airport recorded its strongest May on record in 2026, welcoming 3.1 million passengers during the month. The figure represents a seven percent increase compared with the same period last year and underlines the airport’s growing role as a key entry point to Northern Europe. For travel professionals working with Nordic destinations, the development is another sign that demand for travel to and within the region remains strong.
The increase was primarily driven by European traffic. Norway remained the airport’s largest market, while Italy recorded the strongest growth, with passenger numbers on routes between Copenhagen and Italian destinations increasing by 18 percent. The figures reflect a broader trend seen across Europe: travellers continue to seek both city breaks and nature-based experiences, while airlines expand connectivity between major European markets and Northern Europe.
For tour operators, strong air connectivity remains a crucial factor when developing and selling Nordic itineraries.
Domestic travel within Denmark also continued to grow. During the first five months of 2026, nearly 590,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes to and from Copenhagen, representing a 22 percent increase compared with the previous year.
A significant share of these passengers used Copenhagen as a transfer hub. Today, around four out of ten domestic travellers continue their journey onwards to international destinations. This growing transfer traffic highlights Copenhagen’s strategic role in connecting regional destinations with long-haul and European markets.
For destinations across the Nordic region, accessibility remains one of the most important factors influencing travel demand. Efficient flight connections make it easier for international visitors to combine multiple destinations and explore the region year-round.
With approximately 330 destinations served during the summer season, Copenhagen Airport continues to strengthen its position as one of Northern Europe’s most important aviation hubs.
For travel businesses targeting international markets, the continued growth of Copenhagen Airport is a positive signal, reflecting both strong travel demand and increasing connectivity across the Nordic region.
