In northern Finland, Iso-Syöte is the country’s southernmost fell region. Located on top of the 435m fell Hotel Iso-Syöte offers a friendly and special atmosphere to appreciate comfortable stays, fantastic panorama views, unforgettable experiences and adventures in a serene unspoiled natural environment.

Service
We are running this company, Hotel Iso Syöte & Safaris, as a DMC where the total concept of accommodation, hospitality, activities, restaurant services and unique tailor-made programs are combined, always making use of the peace, space and possibilities of our natural surroundings and wild nature.

Located in the triangle of the three main airports of Lapland (Rovaniemi, Oulu and Kuusamo) means that Iso Syöte is always within easy reach.

The hotel
There are 30 double rooms mostly with a splendid view over the forest and valley below, 20 real Finnish kelo cottages made of full round pine-logs and 16 big family cottages on the very top of the hill. All cottages are fully equipped and clients can enjoy the warm comfort of their own sauna and fireplace in the cottages.

Nature & Activities
Our safaris take you on adventurous trips to discover the area. In winter, when all is heavily covered under a thick layer of glimmering snow you can enjoy snowmobile tours, ice rally drives, husky and reindeer sledge rides, snowshoe hikes, ice fishing trips or downhill and cross country skiing straight from the hotel or the cottages. In summer we explore nature by hiking, canoeing on lakes and rivers, quad bike tours through the forest, reindeer farm/husky farm visits and campfire diners in the open air under the midnight sun.

Programmes and unforgetable safaris. Levi will treat you to many inspiring activities and experiences; Levi’s skilled programme service coordinators make sure of that. You can choose a pre-arranged trip from the week program or go off on your own safari with an experienced wilderness guide. The lively fell village offers plenty of holiday activities for the whole family year-round. Go on a safari with a snowmobile, snowshoes, or on a sled drawn by huskies, Icelandic or Finn horses, or reindeer. On longer safaris, a night spent in a wilderness cabin or a Lappish teepee is an idyllic experience.

Ride with the huskies
Dogsled driving is a fast and exciting experience. On your trip, led by professional guides, you can learn about the daily life and training of these cheerful animals.

Race with reindeer
Riding a reindeer sleigh is a thrilling activity. Grabbing hold of the controls, though, is not as easy as it is with a snowmobile, but it is worth trying. Are we on for a race?

Snowshoe hiking in the fell landscape
When you go on a snowshoe hiking trip, why not head for Kätkätunturi or the wooded terrain and enjoy the lovely snow, the peaceful nature and the beautiful silence. At the same time, you will be keeping fit. At the rest stops, some hot chocolate will really hit the spot!

Test your wilderness survival skills
See how you rate with your friends in a wilderness skills competition at traditional Lapp events. Lasso throwing, skiing in untracked snow, carrying out different hunting tasks and learning traditional skills are fun ways to spend your time. Can you boil water if all you have is an axe, some firewood and a tin box?

The taste of the wilderness
The meals make up an important part of a safari and at Levi eating is an experience. After an invigorating outing, you build up quite an appetite. Why settle for the usual when at Levi you can feast in a Lapp kota or under the open sky alongside the fell? If you are more interested in cooking in the wilderness, try out the wilderness chef course.

Calm your nerves in the sauna, soothe your anger in the steam
In addition to the traditional sauna, the selection of activities at Levi includes all the specialties of the spa, several smoke saunas and steamy mud treatments. After a nice sweat in the kota sauna, you can takea fortifying dive into an ice hole.

Up, up and away in a hot air balloon…
A springtime hot air balloonride allows you to admire the views Levi from above. We are in the air for about an hour and the place of landing depends of course on the fell winds. You can also enjoy the magnificent scenery from a helicopter, a small plane or from a paraglider. With a paraglider made expressly to be towed, you can view the landscape from a height of 75 meters.

Extreme challenge under the ice
Levi has challenges for those looking to push their limits and ice diving is a good way to do it. Arctic diving excursions are always unforgettable adventures! Diving excursions are made in the clear waters of Lapp lakes, in the old lime quarry and inthe Arctic Ocean.

For winter freaks the region around Ylläs is a paradise. 300 km of snowmobile tracks, ski lifts and slopes for all levels, illuminated cross country tracks and your own little cottage! Experience the speed of a husky sleigh ride or enjoy a romantic and cosy reindeer sleigh ride. And explore the white winter scenery on the back of Icelandic horses.

SNOWMOBILING
The 300 km of snowmobile tracks offer a good view of the snow-covered nature in Ylläs and lets you experience the thrill of speed. Here many people have fallen in love with snowmobiling. Thera are many kinds of safaries, from just one hour to several days, something for everyone. You can choose from many routes: short, long and high – all the way from the top of Yllästunturi Fell to the Arctic Ocean

HUSKY SAFARIS
There is no limits for speed and enthusiastic barking when huskies are about to start their favourite job, pulling a sleigh behind them. On the huskysafaries you will get your own dog team of 3 to 6 huskies to drive.

Of course there is a possibility to sit in the sleigh too, if you just want to get a lift and not to drive on your own.

REINDEER SAFARIS
Ylläs is the place with long reindeer herding traditions. You can see reindeer walking next to the roads and even on main road of Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi villages. The new reindeerbabies are born in May. September is the right time to see the reindeer at their most handsome, when the horns have grown to their largest size. During early winter after mating time, the horns fall off, just to grow back again the next year.

ICE FISHING
When winter gives space to the spring and sun is shining, the best period for ice fishing starts. In both villages there is lake in the middle of the village that is good for ice-fishing. Moving out of the villages there are plenty of lakes full of fish in the wilderness. The most typical cathes are perch, white fish, grayling, brown trout, arctic char and rainbow trout.

RIDING
Give yourself a rare treat – a relaxing ride on an Icelandic horse! These small, sturdy and good natured horses are ideal for experiencing the unique nature of Lapland. Whether a sunny winter day, when you can move effortlessly in the snow or a trip in the beginning of the summer, when the sun hardly goes down at all – nature will provide some exciting and unforgettable memories all year round.

During the springtime (January-April) we can take you for a couple of hours to 3-4 hours tour trekking deep in the forests. You will have a chance to stop in a traditional Lappish wigwam (kota) for refreshments and a small snack – all included in the cost. During the summer we offer you two hour trips, half-day and hole-day tours to the fell area to enjoy the beautiful scenery. For more experienced riders we offer 3-5 days tours in northern Lapland during the autumn.

We cater for beginners and experienced riders alike. Horses and trips will be matched according to riders abilities. No previous experience is necessary in short trips, except on children under 12 years. Maximum number of riders on one trip is 5-7 depending on riders’ experience. However, we can arrange a private trip even if you are just on your own.

In all trips we lend you a riding helmet. During the winter time you will be provided with warm clothing and riding boots. We are based in Kurtakko village, only about half an hour’s drive from the international tourist centre of Ylläs.
