NordicMarketing is off to the swamp for the Oulu Arctic Gateway

You don't need green grass to play football....the extreme Finnish athletes from Ukkohalla show you how it is done.

S wamp Football is classified as one of the world’s craziest sports. It was originally developed by Finnish cross-country skiers as an extreme kind of summer training. However for the last three decades Swamp Football has been played as a serious sport.

The Finnish holiday resort Ukkohalla has been host to the yearly Swamp Football World Championships since 2000. The enthusiasm for this pretty unconventional sport has steadily been increasing. When the Swamp Football Championships first began 13 teams competed against each other, since then the number of participants has greatly increased.

During the World Championships from the 23rd to the 24th of June there will be over 300 teams and over 5000 players competing in different categories against each other. During the course of the championship weekend up to 30,000 spectators will be avidly watching this muddy fun.

A great fun event which is being talked about more and more, means there is no stopping the ever increasing popularity of this sport.
