Helsinki is in a party mood this year – the city is not only presenting itself as the World Design Capital 2012, but is also celebrating its bicentenary as the capital of Finland.

In 1812 the Russian Emperor Alexander I made this southern Finnish city the capital of the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland. Before this, during the Swedish rule over Finland Turku had been the country’s capital for several hundred years.

The celebrations, exhibitions and events pay particular attention to the changes and development of Helsinki from a relatively small town to a capital city and the present day metropolis.

We will raft “Tulikurkku”, a short rapid as a practice and then head on to Koiteli – 300 meters of white water, big waves and a jumping ride. The skippers take you to have a close look at the rapids first and then you can choose the most interesting route, as the first time was just for practice. Then you can have another go – maybe this time taking the more challenging route ….

The Koiteli rapids are located in Kiiminki, a 25 minute drive from Oulu.

The rapids are class 3 by the international classification standard.

The Air Guitar World Championships rock the house again on the 22nd to the 24th of August 2012 in Oulu.

Apart from the world’s best air guitarist being chosen in the Grand Final, the Air Guitar World Championships offers people “airy” activities for several days when this international event takes over Oulu – the World Capital for Air Guitar. Make Air Not War!

If you were not chosen to represent your country in the Air Guitar World Championships, you can still try your luck in the Dark Horses Qualifying Round.

Hiking with snowshoes is a quiet way of moving and is suitable for all types of people, even in terrain which is of a bit more demanding nature. Snowshoeing is fun!

SNOWSHOE HIKING

Basic: Level Easy 
Meeting the guides at the startng point. Test the snowshoes and poles and learn a little bit about the technique of walking in deep snow. This trail is not very long and is also suitable for beginners and children. Don’t worry we will take plenty of breaks and have time to enjoy the scenery.

Vuokatinhovi is situated in the middle of a pine forest – a top class location for an active family holiday, which offers year-round accommodation to suit every taste.
