It is located on the coastal edge of the Luleå archipelago some 30 minutes away from Luleå. The guest house is very traditional with a homely feel and boasts 8 hotel style guest rooms all well renovated and with ensuite. The centre of the guesthouse is a large open plan dining and lounge room with an enourmas open fire where guests can relax. There is also a sauna facility that guests can book to complete the living Swedish experience. The guest house is open for independent travellers and small groups from friday to sunday nights.
Northern Lights Snowshoe walk
Snow shoes have been used thousands of years in winter conditions and they really make life easier when the snow cover is thick. Instead of sinking to the hips with every step taken, the snowshoes allow the user to tread on top and make otherwise unaccessible terrain explorable. Walking through the Brändö forests, the experienced guide will tell about the surroundings and if conditions are right the northern lights may be spotted! Underway there will be a pause during which the participants will learn how to light a fire in the snow; afterwards coffee and tea will be prepared. On one tour option dinner will be prepared outdoors by the guide and enjoyed sitting on reindeer furs under the dark sky. This is as close to nature you can get.

Four times a year you will discover coffee and cake in the park, a picnic in a car boot or typical local food specialities in somebodies living room. Hundreds of so-called Popup-Restaurants open for one day throughout the whole of Helsinki, lots of them from other cities around Finland or even from abroad. Everyone can take part and live their dream of having their own restaurant. They can be anywhere – in the office, at home, on the street, in the yard or garden. The more unique an idea is for one of these Popup-Restaurants, the more successful it usually is. Restaurant Day is an idea from Helsinki , which at the moment is spreading across the world.

A legend is born:

The first Restaurant day took place on the 21st of May 2011. 45 Popup-Restaurants opened in 13 different places in Finland. The second Restaurant Day , which was in the following August, already had 200 Popup-Restaurants in four different countries. A new record was achieved during the sixth Restaurant Day on the 19th August 2012 with 784 participating restaurants in more than one hundred parishes.

More than 10,000 gastronomes have had a Popup-Restaurant and served about 150,000 customers. Restaurant Day takes place four times a year and brings a breath of fresh air into Helsinki’s restaurant scene and all other participating cities.

Restaurant Day opens eyes, doors and mouths

This phenomenon is a big benefit for the whole gastronomy scene. „On Restaurant Day people practically have to eat out. Even lots of normal restaurants are fully booked. It allows new restaurants to test themselves, and for established restaurants the event gives them valuable free market research, which they normally wouldn’t be able to buy. It shows what’s trendy and what new trends are up and coming. What are people interested in, what do we need?“

What once started off as a small rebellious idea has now developed into a well known and well liked public event.
