Guides will tell about flora and fauna on the way. Hiking/orienteering by GPS through the forest and cycling back to the start point. Cycling can also be changed to quadbikes and transport by car.

This event can also include e.g. tyrolean traverse (a wire slide over a lake) or abseil or teamwork tasks.

1. DAY- Arrival in Turku
Overnight in central located hotel

2. DAY. Turku- Taivassalo  (ca.55km)
In the morning the bikes are brought to the hotel. You´ll discover the former Finnish capital, its middle age castle, mighty cathedral and idyllic river walk. The travel continues to Naantali over the impressive bridge to Meriamsku, at 15:00 ferry from Velkua to Taivassalo (45 min), the tour ends at the accommodation for the night.
Dinner is serverd at the hostel.

3. DAY – Taivassalo. Iniö (ca. 57 km)
Houtskari- Korppoo. After the breakfast begins the drive from Kustavi to Iniö, a small friendly island that is the far most corner of the tour. Then five wonderful ferry rides take you to the heart of southwest archipelago. The overnight accommodation is on the island Karppoo, in an old barn that has been renovated as a guest house. The hostel offers Bed & breakfast and also dinner is served at the hostel.

4. DAY –Korppoo- Nauvo (ca. 31 km)
From Korppoo You will take a short ferry ride to Nauvo. Also there the overnight accommodation is in an old barn that’s also been renovated as a guesthouse. The hostel offers Bed & breakfast that is pictorially served and also dinner is served at the hostel.

5. DAY – Nauvo- Naantali (ca. 54 km)
The day begins with a idyllic crossing of one hour to the north to an island called Rymättylä. Drive back to the mainland and Naantali a maritime picturesque city with stony alleys and old wooden houses. Overnight in a spa hotel. For dinner there are many nice restaurants in the old town.

6. DAY- Naantali-Turku (ca. 14km)
Short drive to Turku where You have time for your own discoveries. Invoice of the rental. Overnight at the same hotel as in the first night.

Hiking and Nordic Walking
In Levi on clearly marked routes of the new Nordic Walking park or other hiking paths the traveler can get to know the region and explore the nature.
Longer hiking routes can be found from the gorgeous National Park of Pallas-Ylläs- Fjell close by.

Biking and skating
In addition to the varied biking routes and offside streets, Levi also has a Bike Park with Freeride-, Dirt-, and Cross-tracks including the Finland’s fastest Downhill- track.

Fishing
Levi and its surroundings have several lakes, ponds and rivers with very rich fishstock.

Canoeing
Levi region offers canoeing opportunities for beginners and experts. The Rivers of the region (Ounasjoki, Kapsajoki, Loukinen, Aakenusjoki) are easy waters for canoeing sports. They fall under Category 1 in hardness.

A hiking journey through the European Union’s easternmost border area, Finnish Kainuu, right beside the Russian border. The route passes through wilderness areas with pristine untouched nature, ending each evening in a comfortable accommodation where you can enjoy local hospitality and delicious local food.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrival
Arrival at Kajaani airport where you’ll meet your local guide. Transfer (approx. 2 hours) to Martinselkonen Wilds Centre for dinner and accommodation.

Day 2 Martinselkonen Wilds Centre – Arola 16 km
After a hearty breakfast you begin the tour by hiking through the Martinselkonen nature reserve towards Arola farm where you will be welcomed by friendly hosts. The nature reserve has been set up to protect Finnish wilderness, especially swamp areas. This area is important for many birds and insects as the normal Finnish forest industry does not reach these nature reserve areas. Martinselkonen has watery mires and small lakes, old growth forests and spruce trees draped in beard lichen. A special dinner made of local ingredients will be enjoyed after sauna.

Day 3 Arola – Kovajärvi 19 km
Today you head northwards along the Russian border. The close proximity of the Russian border adds something rather mysterious and exotic to the atmosphere of the area. The border guard towers, the border zone, and the view over the Russian side are an experience in itself. you stop for a picnic at  one of the wilderness huts operated by the Finnish Forest and Park Service. An open fire will be made, and hot coffee brewed. Accommodation is in tents on the shore of Lake Kovajärvi.

Day 4 Kovajärvi – Hossa 24 km
Today’s wild landscape is home to a healthy wolverine population, and although these secretive predators are seldom seen, you may come across their tracks. Swans and cranes can be spotted on the lakes and mires you pass by. There are many swamp areas, but they are easily crossed by using
wooden planks. The surrounding forest has an abundance of vegetation such as blueberries, lingonberries and mushrooms. The blueberry season is at its best in August and can provide fresh snacks for hikers. Accommodation in Hotel Hossan Lomakeskus in twin rooms.

Day 5 Hossa 13 km
After the longest hiking day you take it easy and have a wake-up call later than usual. The trek continues along the paths of the Hossa recreational area. Hossa is known for its crystal-clear lakes and handsome pine heathlands. It is also known locally as a “fisherman’s paradise”. We will stop for the lunch at the visitor centre and have a look at the exhibition which tells about the nature and history of the surrounding area. Accommodation for the remaining three nights is at Tolosenvirta cabin where the lakeside sauna will be heated every night.

Day 6 Canoeing
For a change you make a canoeing trip on the lakes and rivers nearby our accommodation. We will use open Indian canoes and all necessary equipment, such as paddles and life vests will be provided. The tour will be on still water on a couple of lakes linked by small rivers. Reindeer are a common sight in Hossa and occasionally elks can also be seen. For those ones who prefer to stay on land there are plenty of well marked hiking trails to explore in the area.

Day 7 Julma-Ölkky canyon lake
On the last day of your tour you will visit Julma-Ölkky canyon lake, where you will do a half an hour boat trip to look at the cliffs. Then you will hike 4 km to see the “Colour Rock” with ancient rock paintings dating back to 4000 years. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed around an open fire and after that you will hike 4 – 14 km through the beautiful pine and spruce forest back to your accommodation. Sauna and farewell dinner at the Tolosenvirta cabin.

Day 8
Return: After breakfast transfer to Kuusamo airport.

The marathon-race demands everything from the participants and their bikes. 24 hours it goes through the nature of Levi. Single as well as groups up to 8 people are allowed to participate. The team or the rider who covers the longest distance in 24 hours wins the prestigious race.

The challenging 12 km circuit brings the participants along quite different terrains. Flat grounds at the entrance of the fjeld as well as paths along the rise of the fjeld are part of the route.

A unique experience for the mountain bikers are the light full nights during this time of the year. Levi is closely situated to the polar circle and there fore no darkness appears at midsummer. 24 hours of daylight is defintely an unique experience.

But, Kuhmo with 10.000 inhabitants is not only famous among the world for its distinctive nature. Every year during summer time the chamber music festival of the city pulls thousands of national and international visitors. The well known finnish cellist Seppo Kimanen, founded the festival already in 1970. In the beginning the concerts took place in the farmhouse parlours of the inhabitants. But since 1993 the festival switched to the  Kuhmo-talo, a modern concert hall in Kuhmo.

During the festival, there are a lot of accompanying events and workshops, supporting the worldwide signification of the festival. The centre of excellence Virtuoso for instance, is an international oriented research and teaching department, which supports the musicians during the event.

This year the chamber music festival is themed ‘Metamorphosis- from the planets to the global village via passion and dreams’. During the 10th till 23rd July around 130 musicians from Finland and abroad present 75 different concerts. It is expected that 36.000 tickets will be sold for the concerts.
