Hiking and Nordic Walking
In Levi on clearly marked routes of the new Nordic Walking park or other hiking paths the traveler can get to know the region and explore the nature.
Longer hiking routes can be found from the gorgeous National Park of Pallas-Ylläs- Fjell close by.

Biking and skating
In addition to the varied biking routes and offside streets, Levi also has a Bike Park with Freeride-, Dirt-, and Cross-tracks including the Finland’s fastest Downhill- track.

Fishing
Levi and its surroundings have several lakes, ponds and rivers with very rich fishstock.

Canoeing
Levi region offers canoeing opportunities for beginners and experts. The Rivers of the region (Ounasjoki, Kapsajoki, Loukinen, Aakenusjoki) are easy waters for canoeing sports. They fall under Category 1 in hardness.

Riding
As a summer offer for riders with different experience levels it is possible to make an overnight riding trip. Ask us also about summer outdoor camping.

Kids program

Levi Travel: Ruska-marathon a route along Laplands nature

At September the 3rd 2011 the annual Ruskamarathon takes place in the Finnish village Levi.. Not only among runners is the marathon known as the season’s final event. Ruska is the Finnish word for ‘indian summer’, the unique blaze of autumn colours in Lapland.

The event offers activities for the whole family. Full, half and quarter marathon for adults and young adults. Ruska Walk for seniors and other easy goers and kid’s runs for young runners up to 12 years. Furthermore the Ruskamarkkinat market place offers all kind of goods from souvenirs and sports equipment to hot sausages and warm drinks that keeps all the runners and their supporters happy.

As host Levi offers great facilities: around 20 thousand beds in hotels, apartments and cottages and several restaurants plus a spa in the middle of Lappish nature 150 km north from polar circle. Beautiful nature and it’s brilliant colours makes one’s hair flurry and mind wild!

Start and finish are in front of Hotel Levitunturi. At the beginning the route goes along Levi’s village from where it continues between two fells, Levi and Kätkä, towards Kittilä town.

Along the way beautiful lake and fell sceneries makes a mark in every runners mind. Full marathon goes all the way to Kittilä town and comes back along the same route. Refreshment points along the the full marathon are 10.

Half marathon follows the same route towards Kittilä town but turns back on the half way. Refreshment points along the half marathon are 5.

Quarter marathon follows it’s own routes on the north side of Levi village. Refreshment points along the quarter marathon are 2.

All paid competitors will receive a Ruskamaraton medal. While running, gears can be stored at the finishing area. Services along the route and sauna after the race are included, too. Sauna for men is at Lainio and for women at Aakenus. Or you can get 50% discount at the Levi Spa by showing your medal.

Levi: Polar Open Snowboard Event 2011

Just before the beginning of spring a special winter sport event is going to take place in Levi. On the 19th of March, snowboarder and new school skier from all over Europe are going to show their skills in the most northern halfpipe of the world at the ‘Battery Polar Open’. Everyone from at least 15 years of age can participate in an open qualification to qualify for the main race.

Something new for the winter sport in Finland is the BagJump. Participants of the Polar Open have the opportunity to experience a feeling of flying one day before the competition.

On 18th of March the BagJump will be tested for the first time in Finnland.
Thereby all snowboarder and skier are going to land on 15x15x3.5 m large air bag, after their jump over a ramp.

The Bagjump is a helpful tool for training new tricks. The huge air bag allows jumps from up to 50 m width, without missing the soft landing.

The ‚Battery Polar Open’ is going to take place on 19th of March from 12:00-18:00 o’clock right at the foot of the fjell.

Levi Panorama: Chasing the Northern Lights

Polar nights, which are also known as Northern lights, are a luminous effect, especially occurring in the pole areas. In Scandinavia it can be mainly seen northward of the 60.latitude and is one of the highlights in the wintery Lapland.

Levi: Restaurant Saamen Kammi

One of the rare and real Sami restaurants can be found in Levi. The so called “Kammi” (Earth lodge in English) Restaurant is located halfway underground and is known for its cosy and warm atmosphere. Here Guests can enjoy a delicious warm meal for a special occasion, like after an active outdoor day on the Ski-slopes of Levi. Among other meals, smoked reindeer steak, salmon with sour cream and dill sauce prepared at an open fire or Kammi’s host stew are on choice.

The Samis are a folk with a 2000 year long lasting tradition. They mostly live in the most nothern part of Scandinavia. To this day Reindeers play a major role in the lifes of the Samis. Besides smoked fish, root vegetables and cloudberry pancakes, reindeermeat is major component of the Sami cusine.

Once you are inside the restaurant you can feel the warmth of the open fire, experience Sámi hospitality and enjoy yoik’s (a Sámi form of singing) by Niiles-Jouni. A truely unique experience!

The restaurant serves at 6pm and 9pm. A serving will go on if there are at least ten reservations in total. (Maximum 85 persons)
Reservations can be made until 3 p.m. on the day before.
A serving typically takes 2,5 hours and costs 49€ / person

Levi24: Mountainbike-Marathon Event

Every year, just before the midsummer festival, mountain bike-fans from all over the world meet up in the north finnish city of Levi, to watch or participate in one of the hardest races in this sport – LEVI24.

The marathon-race demands everything from the participants and their bikes. 24 hours it goes through the nature of Levi. Single as well as groups up to 8 people are allowed to participate. The team or the rider who covers the longest distance in 24 hours wins the prestigious race.

The challenging 12 km circuit brings the participants along quite different terrains. Flat grounds at the entrance of the fjeld as well as paths along the rise of the fjeld are part of the route.

A unique experience for the mountain bikers are the light full nights during this time of the year. Levi is closely situated to the polar circle and there fore no darkness appears at midsummer. 24 hours of daylight is defintely an unique experience.

Levi: Winter fun for the whole family

Levi is situated in the fell of Lapland, right in the pure and wild nature of northern Finland. The lively fell village is a little holiday resort with a varied and qualitative high class offer. Especially families feel themselves comfortable in Levi, as the winter sport destination is the perfect place, to get a first insight into winter sport.

Right at the front slopes, a little play area, especially designed for kids, is set up. While the adults spend there time on the hillsides, the toboggan hill and a multiplicity of daily activities offers fun and alternation for the kids. Against the coldness, a warm juice in the Lapland tent helps. Furthermore the kids can heat up themselves at the open campfire. For meals it is wise to bring some sausages which can be grilled right at the campfire.

By the way, the toboggan hills belong to the best in Skandinavia according to the experts. The ski school for 4-6 year old kids trains daily during the week from 8-17 o clock. The downhill- and cross country ski courses for older kids start each Sunday and Monday.

For the kids, 10 free of charge ski lifts are reserved in different areas of the fell. Children below the age of 7 can use the other ski lifts for free as well, preconditioned that they wear a helmet and are in company of their parents. The easy downhill slopes Utsuvaara and Aurinko Lift, as well as the well known South hillside are especially popular among the families.

Levi: FIS World Cup as well in 2011

Last Weekend the FIS World Cup of the alpine ski racer gave a guest performance in the north finish destination Levi. Brilliant ski sport and a large supporting programme attracted in perfect weather conditions record-breaking 6.000 visitors right next to the slope.

During the three days the visitors followed the races of the women and men and were happy to celebrate with their local hero Tanja Poutianinen a place on the podium. She won the third place in the final slalom right behind the female Austrian racer Marlies Schild and the German racer Maria Riesch.

Because of the great success, Levi is going to be host of a World Cup in the coming year again. Then the ski racers compete against each other from the 11th till 13th November 2011 in Lapland.
