River Oulujoki has been carrying many people on its waves, from tar rowers to log floaters. Oulu Safaris will also take you on a journey with tar boats to discover the river environment and to hear exciting stories about this important waterway. Each wave that swashes the boat can tell about bygone times. Turkansaari Outdoor Museum offers information about the history of Oulu region.
River Oulujoki served the regional economic life as a vivid vein. It was the route for the merchants to get to the markets of the outer world. Salmon fishers throughout Europe used to arrive in the early days to take their chances in the rapids rich in fish.
Through ages, River Oulujoki has kept up its role as the main river of the region of Northern Ostrobothnia. When you travel along the river, you will be surprised what a world of its own the stream has created.
